Must we prove our usefulness?
As AI becomes more capable, we need a fuller account of human worth: what we can do, that we are here, whom we are with, and who we may become.
Four dimensions of human valueAs tools grow more powerful, the question of who uses them matters more.
VOS is one person's long inquiry into life, human agency, and change. It begins with our inner drive and returns to the choices, actions, and relationships of everyday life.

Understand life through thought. Test thought through life.
THOUGHT × LIFE × PRACTICEVOS does not ask you to accept a finished answer. It begins with a question already present in ordinary life: as machines extend what we can do, how should we understand our worth—and take part in shaping our own lives?
First notice the inner patterns through which we live. Then learn to understand and test them—and eventually take part in changing them. This is where VOS begins.
The question begins with ourselvesAs AI becomes more capable, we need a fuller account of human worth: what we can do, that we are here, whom we are with, and who we may become.
Four dimensions of human valueFrom survival to strength, self-transcendence, and the creation of value, VOS asks where our inner drive comes from.
The living source of actionThe Vitagence Operating System brings drive, structure, direction, choice, and living with others into one line of inquiry. Each idea must meet the test of lived experience.
A framework is never a finished map.
It grows through action,
feedback, and revision.
Recognize the inner drive that moves a life forward.
See how perception, action, and feedback form a loop.
Stay true to a direction while leaving the route open.
Notice automatic reactions and recover the ability to choose.
Find a basis for moving forward together in a complex world.
Being useful matters, but usefulness cannot tell the whole story of a person. VOS considers four dimensions of human value in the age of AI.
What can I make, contribute, or accomplish?
Capability is part of our value and deserves to be developed.
When I produce nothing for a time, am I still worthy of respect as a person?
Who shares my life, and for whom does my presence have a meaning no one else can replace?
How do experience, choice, and action help me become someone I have not yet been?
Together, these dimensions point to a particular, embodied person who keeps growing in relation to the world.
I created VOS and am writing The Vitagence Operating System to keep asking what human agency means as technology changes our world: how we notice our patterns, make choices, and shape a life through action.
The essays develop these ideas over time. Everyday experience remains the place where I test and revise them.
“What matters is whether we can see ourselves, understand ourselves, choose—and keep changing.”VOS · THE VITAGENCE OPERATING SYSTEM
